MyHeritage is a family tree website with a truly global reach. The company behind it has major offices in London, Tel Aviv, and Provo, Utah. It also operates with user interfaces in 38 languages to allow people to find family members the world over. In the continuation of that effort, MyHeritage just announced its new Matching Technology that will automatically search historical records and newspaper articles of the past 300 years in order to find potentially relevant family information.
The automated search technology will compare the more than one billion profiles currently on the website against a record library with more than four billion documents. The records are coming from publicly available information online, such as newspapers, books, and other content. MyHeritage has also licensed access to historical newspapers dating back to the 18th century that the tool will search. Other records will come from the databases owned by other MyHeritage sites, WorldVitalRecords.com and FamilyLink.com.

MyHeritage developed the technology in-house, which will work in tandem with the site?s current search technology Smart Matching?.
How the Record Matching Technology Works
Using a semantic search, Record Matching hopes to find more detailed information about the achievements, details, and personalities of people?s ancestors. The search results may also provide information that can help fill out gaps in building one?s family tree. The new tool is also smart enough to run searches that accommodate synonyms, similar spellings, and multilingual and phonetic spellings of names.
The strongest collections cover records from the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and Canada. Additional information from other countries is continually being added to the records database.
When Record Matching finds relevant records for a person?s family tree, they?ll see a shortened extract of the record for free in their account. If someone wants full access to the record, they can either purchase a data subscription or pay-as-you-go credits from MyHeritage.
