According to Taiwan's Economic Daily News (via MacRumors) , we might not get to see the long-anticipated IPad mini with retina display until 2014. The culprit? Believe it or not, it's the retina displays themselves. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've heard of delays, as DigiTimes reported earlier in the year that production concerns were holding up the release until late this year. Other commentators have foreseen delays, including Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities, who predicted (via AppleInsider ) that the IPad mini 2 wouldn't appear until 2014, citing similar concerns with production. But according to the Economic Daily News, we might still see an IPad this year, but it'll be on the lower end of the pricing spectrum. Specifically, they believe, we'll see a non-retina IPad that's aimed at broadening Apple's appeal among consumers who prefer low-cost tablets. If that's true, it could mean that Apple's planning to unleash multiple low-cost devices at once, including the long-rumored "budget iPhone." The flashier stuff will have to wait until next year.
