The world of video games has come a long way in the last thirty years and has developed a huge fan base of tens of millions across the world. Gaming has become big business, with some new releases being advertised almost on par with films appearing at the cinema and you will find a computer gaming device of some kind or other in most people homes.
Computer games began as just little white dots on a black ground but have rapidly advanced into amazing forms of entertainment, and now you can live out many fantasies from the comfort of your own home. You can be a racing driver and compete with other players in a high-speed adrenaline rush competition, or you can become an elite special-forces soldier and carry out secret missions under the cover of darkness. The list is endless, and games are that advanced now with cutting edge graphics and sound, that you can almost forget you are playing a game at times.
Gaming was once pretty much a solitary pastime, and people would play games, and finish levels until they had completed the game. Then the Internet, or Worldwide Web appeared, and this technological advance revolutionised the gaming scene forever. Originally accessible only by a Personal Computer, online gaming transported people into a whole new world, where you could play and talk with other people from practically anywhere around the world, adding a realism that the gaming world had never seen before and many players have formed friendships that has lasted years.
Games consoles also caught on to the act of the Internet, and soon there was an array of gaming titles that console users could play online. Over the last couple of years, gaming machines have took another leap forward and Nintendo is at the forefront of this new genre of gaming machines with their Wii console, which has a dual purpose of not only offering you entertainment, but also enabling you to get valuable exercise while you are doing it. This idea of allowing a person or persons to be able to work-out while they play a game has had phenomenal success, so much so that last Christmas it was almost impossible to obtain one, such was the demand. Who knows what the future of gaming has in store for us, but you can bet it is only going to get better.
