The Young Americans performing group will be returning to the Norfolk area this year.
They will be holding a workshop at Norfolk Catholic High School October 25th through the 27th, with a concert being held on the final night.? This is third time that Norfolk Catholic has hosted the Young Americans.
Norfolk Senior High School will also be hosting the Young Americans, November 5th through the 7th.
The Young Americans are a travelling troupe of singers, dancers, and musicians. Their focus is on providing music education and performance opportunities to young people around the world. They promote the importance of music by working with students in grades 4 through 12.
The group was founded in 1962 by Milton C. Anderson, in Los Angeles, California.? Since then, the group has been performing with and ?discovering? well known stars throughout the performing arts, including individuals such as: Nia Peeples, Tim Bagley, and Mark Walberg.
The Young Americans group has also founded a college in Southern California, to help foster the arts. They offer college credit courses in music, dance, performing, and education for all Young Americans participants.
They currently host 7 International Outreach Tours a year, performing all across North America, Europe, Australia and Japan.
Of the Young Americans coming to Norfolk, 23 are Nebraska natives, and six are from Norfolk. These include: Scott Benson, Hilary Smith, Zach Smolnik, Marcus Wilcox of Norfolk Catholic High School; Jacob Figueroa ?Fig?, Skyler Parkinson of Norfolk Senior High School.
