AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? As the reigning world champion in the decathlon, Trey Hardee should figure as the big favorite at the London Olympics.

He would be if it weren't for a pinkish, 5-inch scar that curves around his right elbow.

Hardee had reconstructive surgery last September to repair a ligament he blew out while throwing the javelin at the World Championships last summer. The injury occurred on his final throw, a personal best that locked up his second straight world decathlon title.

Now Hardee is pushing the elbow through an accelerated rehabilitation process aimed at competing in the U.S. Olympic trials in June. He insists he'll be ready for the trials ? and the London games.

"At this point, (I) feel as good as I've ever felt," Hardee told The Associated Press during an interview Wednesday on the infield at the Texas Relays. "The confidence grows every week. It's as strong as it's ever going to get and now we just have to train it and take baby steps in the pole vault and the javelin to get it ready to compete."

Hardee, who trains in Austin, is entered in the long jump, discus and hurdles at the Texas Relays, the meet where he set the NCAA record in the decathlon for the University of Texas in 2006. He won't do a complete decathlon until the Olympic trials.

Hardee and his personal coach, University of Texas associate head coach Mario Sategna, say they're trying to cut the usual 12-month recovery period down to nine. They don't have a choice. Misfire at the Olympic trials and Hardee won't go to London.

Hardee doesn't seem worried that he won't make it.

"We're pushing it daily. ... We're not trying to test it every day, but we're trying to loosen it up," he said. "If I'm healthy and can pole vault and throw the javelin at 100 percent, I definitely consider myself the (Olympic) favorite because I haven't lost a decathlon in so long."

A couple of other Americans might have something to say about that.

Ashton Eaton finished second at the World Championships and has set world records in the heptathlon three years in a row. American Bryan Clay is the defending Olympic champion. Hardee dropped out of the Beijing Games after not clearing any heights in the pole vault, knocking him out of fourth place.

Hardee acknowledged the Olympic stage may have been too big for him in 2008.

"That was my first time out of the country. It was the first time I had flown on a plane for more than a couple of hours," Hardee said. "I had never been in a competition that was that tightly packed at the top with athletes as good or better than I was. ... I learned a lot. I thought I would just go in there and could win a medal."

Hardee took the lessons of that failure and won his first world championship in 2009.

Hardee initially had no idea how bad he hurt his elbow at the 2011 world championships. The U.S. team doctors at first told him the ligament was fine, perhaps because they couldn't feel it under all the muscle. So he wrapped the elbow at a 90-degree angle and ran the final event, the 1,500 meters, with his arm throbbing the entire way. Hardee told reporters afterward he had just "tweaked" the elbow.

"My elbow popped and I had a ton of pain running up and down my arm," Hardee says now.

Hardee returned to Texas a few days later and went to a clinic in San Antonio for tests. Doctors found the ulnar collateral ligament was completely detached from his elbow and had curled up toward his triceps.

"I actually fainted," Hardee said. "They told me, I stood up, walked outside and passed out. I was embarrassed."

Hardee called renowned sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., to schedule Tommy John surgery. Andrews replaced the UCL with a tendon taken from Hardee's right forearm.

"It was surgery or never use the elbow again," Hardee said.

He was back on the track within a couple of weeks and has been so aggressive with his rehab that Andrews has told him to dial it back a couple of times. A decathlete, who has to perfect so many different events, is hard to plug into a recovery schedule after a surgery more typically done on pitchers or quarterbacks, Sategna said.

"When you take a decathlete, one of the best athletes in the world, he's kind of rewrote the book a little bit," Sategna said.

Hardee has concentrated on improving his running and jumping events to compensate for anything less than peak performance in the pole vault or javelin.

"If he does what he's supposed to in all the other events, he's not going to need a personal best in the javelin hopefully to make the Olympic team," Sategna said.

Now it's all about watching the calendar and staying ahead of it in getting ready for this summer.

"I can do a ton of stuff. I can throw a baseball 280 feet right now. I can bench press 340 pounds," Hardee said. "But put a javelin in my hand? There's a functionality that just takes time."

Time that is in short supply.

Northern Arizona News ? Pinterest struggling with legal controversy

Pinterest, one of the newest social media sites on the Internet, recently changed its terms and privacy conditions after legal experts questioned the possibility of copyright infringement within the expansive picture-sharing database.

The site has gained popularity for its diversity in subjects as well as accessibility. By visiting the homepage, the user can scroll through hundreds of ?pinned? pictures varying from wedding ideas to celebrity quotes to new recipes for fruity cocktails. However, many users tend to pin mindlessly, not understanding the possible legal repercussions.

The newly updated terms and privacy conditions, which go into effect on April 6, explicitly explain how content will be managed and copyright will be handled. In regards to ?re-pinning,? the terms state that, depending on the individual account settings, users can ?display, reproduce, re-pin, modify (e.g., re-format), re-arrange and distribute your User Content on Pinterest for the purposes of operating and providing the Service(s) to you and to our other Users.?

The process of pinning involves re-posting pictures varying from crafts to fashion to inspirational quotes. The user can then create themed pages in which to organize their pins so others Pinterest users may view them as well. However, there is concern that many users are not accurately giving credit to the original creator of the photograph. The U.S. copyright laws define pictures protected under the laws as ?two-dimensional and three dimensional works of fine, graphic, and applied art, photographs, prints and art reproductions, maps, globes, charts, diagrams, models, and technical drawings, including architectural plans.?

According to The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998, those who violate copyright law with intent to self-promote or increase financial gain may face anywhere between five to 10 years in prison along with between $500,000 and $1 million in fines. This is also addressed in Pinterest?s ?Pin Etiquette? page, where the five rules listed include: ?Be nice, credit your sources, avoid self-promotion, report objectionable content and tell us how to make Pinterest better.?

Catherine Carroll, a sophomore international hospitality and management major, uses the website for creative ideas, whereas sophomore psychology major, Jordan Recchion, uses Pinterest for its efficiency.

?I like all the funny pictures, and I like that they have different recipes. It?s just another way to share your interests and get ideas for arts and crafts and show how to do fun things with your hair,? Carroll said.

She explained she has little concern for recent illegality charges of one of her most visited sites.

?I always just assumed it was okay. I never really thought about it,? Carroll said. ?It makes sense, but at the same time so many things go through the Internet. If people are getting that upset, they need to set their priorities straight. But for the recipes, if you click on the picture it will bring you to the original website, so shouldn?t that be credit enough??

When asked if he knew each pin was supposed to credit the original source, Recchion responded that he was under the impression the website took care of it.

?Well honestly, I figured it was all under control because it [the picture] usually has a link to the original site and the person who pinned it first. I haven?t heard of any problems yet, so I guess I never even considered they were under speculation,? Recchion said.

Although Pinterest has not been officially charged with any lawsuits, there are many news articles reporting that artists may soon demand creative credit for their work.

Carroll, however, remains loyal to the popular webpage.

?If they?re just saying, ?Oh you could be in trouble,? then I?d probably not listen and just keep using the site,? Carroll said.

The Pinterest Press Team and Copyright Agent could not be reached for comment.

Fact: Mirena can be used to prevent pregnancy for up to 5 years and the Paragard can be used for up to 10!

Myth: IUDs increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
Fact: IUD users are not at increased risk of contracting STIs. Women who are at risk for STIs should use a latex barrier (like a condom or dental dam), but these women are generally still good candidates for an IUD.

Myth: Only women who are done having children should get an IUD.
Fact: Most women, including women who have never had children, are generally good candidates for an IUD. Also, fertility returns quickly after an IUD is removed, so people have more control to decide if and when they want to parent.

Myth: IUDs increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy.
Fact: A woman is more at risk of developing an ectopic pregnancy if she is not using contraception. IUDs work by preventing fertilization of an egg, therefore, reducing the incidence of pregnancy, which will in turn, reduce the risk of ectopic pregnancy.

ah so im procrastinating on assignments n stuff. well, i always start out focused and doing work then within 30 min i get distracted with fish and aquariums (researching, youtube etc).

I?m ADD and OCD so I get bored and focus on procrastinating. Because of this I have many hobbies. I enjoy sewing, baking, hiking, soccer, running, and I make chainmaille. I am very into fish, but I also have a tree frog, gecko, 2 dogs, a cat, and an Amazon parrot. I want to be a zoo keeper.

Russia to Romney: How could we be your No. 1 enemy?

Mitt Romney's comment has astounded Russians, who acknowledge mixed relations with the US but point to Russia's integration with the international community as proof that they are not foe No. 1.

That pretty much sums up the reaction from many Russians today, where Mr. Romney's "enemy No. 1" jab at Moscow has been played over and over by official media, amid mounting public outrage, since he uttered it in response to President Obama's inadvertently overheard blunt political chat with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of a security conference in Seoul.

Mr. Obama was seen making nice with Mr. Medvedev?and, apparently unaware that microphones were on, asking the Russians to dial back their objections to US missile defense plans until after he's reelected in November, when "I'll have more flexibility."

Romney pounced, not merely at the appearance of secret diplomacy by Obama, but seemingly at Russia itself.

"This is, without question, our No. 1 geopolitical foe. They ? they fight every cause for the world's worst actors. The idea that he has some more flexibility in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed," Romney said in an interview with CNN. "The idea that our president is planning on doing something with them that he's not willing to tell the American people before the election is something I find very, very alarming."

While the suggestion of electoral connivance between Obama and Medvedev has made little impression in Russia, which has just been through its own carefully orchestrated presidential campaign,?Romney's comments hit like a bomb.

"It came as a shock. You just don't expect to hear that from someone who's running for US president," says Masha Lipman, editor of the Moscow Carnegie Center's Pro et Contra journal. "I thought an enemy was a country or force that seeks to kill Americans or destroy the US, not a country like Russia that has some civilized differences, which it expresses in forums like the [United Nations] Security Council."

Attitudes toward the US have fluctuated among Russians since the USSR collapsed more than 20 years ago. During the 1990s, the Kremlin sought to align itself with Western policies, but over the past decade, under now president-elect Vladimir Putin, it has carved out a more independent stance, often irritating Washington with uncooperative acts, such as two UN Security Council vetoes?of resolutions aimed at international intervention in Syria's crisis.

But most Russian experts point out that occasional quarrels over big issues like NATO expansion and missile defense ? which often have a distinct cold war ring to them ? are more than compensated for by many examples of Russia's progressive integration into the world community over recent years. Russia is a member of the G8, it sits on the Council of Europe, and late last year it finally joined the World Trade Organization. The military confrontation that once divided Europe into armed camps has dissipated, most former Soviet allies are now members of NATO, and this month Russia even offered its former enemy the use of an advanced Russian airbase in the Volga region of Ulyanovsk?to help ease the strain of resupplying embattled NATO forces in Afghanistan.
